5 Simple Ways To Help Get Rid Of Love Handles

To get rid of love handles is one of the more difficult things to do. Despite the name “love handles”, what is there to love?

It’s just another name for excess fat. It bulges on the sides of your waist and, sometimes, hangs over the top of your pants. We call it the dreaded muffin top, and it can be very hard to shake.

Everyone always tries the hard way to get rid of love handles. They do endless side crunches, torture their obliques, and hope for the best. The ideal targets are the muscles that run down the sides of your upper body.

I don’t mean to rain on your parade, but this is not an effective way to lose love handles. Most exercises won’t do the trick on their own.

The only way for you to get rid of your love handles for good is to make dietary, exercise, and lifestyle changes.

To help you out, I have made up a list to help get rid of love handles.

Cut out Added Sugar

When it comes to losing fat in any area of your body, healthy eating is vital. Cutting out added sugar is one way to clean up your diet.

A lot of food contains unnecessary sugars. Snacks like Cookies, candies, sports drinks, and sodas are your biggest culprits. However, this does not apply to the natural sugar found in healthy foods like whole fruit.

The scary thing is that added sugar is linked to a couple of health issues. Diabetes, heart disease, and metabolic syndrome are just some of these. By consuming too much added sugar, you increase the amount of body fat in the belly area.

Are you aware that most sugary foods are loaded with calories and contain very few nutrients? If not, then cutting back on added sugar in your diet can help reduce body fat. This includes the love handles.

Consume Healthy Fats

Eating healthy fats like avocados, fatty fish, nuts, olive oil, and seeds can help slim your belly.

Healthy fats have a great taste and help you feel full. That way you to eat fewer calories throughout your busy day.

If you replace foods low nutrients with healthy fats, it may help you lose body fat. Do something simple like adding a few slices of avocado to your meal.

A recent study showed that people who ate avocados regularly had less belly fat than those who don’t.

Yes, some healthy fats are high in calories, but add moderate amounts into your diet to help you shed pounds.

Fill up on Fiber

Beans, fruits, nuts, oats, and vegetables contain soluble fiber. By adding foods that are rich in soluble fiber may help you get rid of those stubborn love handles.

Consuming fibre makes you feel full for an extended period. How, might you ask? Fiber slows down digestion and decreases the feelings of hunger.

It’s worth mentioning that foods that are rich in fiber are usually also packed with nutrients. As a bonus, they’re good for the friendly bacteria in your gut.

Keep Moving Throughout the Day

Find simple and easy ways to burn calories throughout the day. It may shock you, but this is an excellent way to burn and lose excess body fat.

In today’s day and age, people lead sedentary lifestyles. In other words, we all work jobs that involve sitting for hours on end. Very few of us need to move around a lot. Several studies show that sitting for long periods isn’t good for you – or, for that matter, your waistline.

Getting into the habit of getting up and walking to the water cooler every half hour can have a big difference.

Using your smartphone or smartwatch is a great way to keep track of your steps. There’s a lot of new technology that will help you keep track of how much you move through the day.

Eat Whole Foods

One of the simplest ways to get rid of love handles is by eating a diet rich in whole foods and unprocessed foods.

Highly processed foods, like Fast food, fried foods, sweets, and TV dinners, are not good! Try to avoid processed foods like these. They tend to have lots of ingredients that are not good for your health.

There are studies that show people who eat a lot of processed foods have at a more significant risk of obesity. They’re also at risk of chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease.

Fruits, lean proteins, nuts, seeds, vegetables, and whole grains are healthy whole foods. Consuming whole, natural foods and adding them to your daily diet is an excellent way to shrink your waistline.

Rather than consuming ready made dishes, instead, prepare meals that are made with whole foods at home. This another great way to lose those love handles.

The Bottom Line

As you can see, there are many simple and natural ways to get rid of love handles.

You can slim your waistline with a little effort. Try a new exercise routine or eat fewer processed foods. Add a little more fiber to your diet and enjoy the results!

To lose fat and keep it off, you must make lasting changes to your diet, exercise routine, and lifestyle.

Remember, making one change, no matter how small, can have an impact. But if you combined exercise, food and lifestyle changes, you’ll a better chance of losing your love handles for good.

Shaking the Cellulite: Ten Myths and Facts

Cellulite. It’s the bane of women everywhere. In fact, the jiggles and bumps affect nearly 90% of women – even the fit and slender ones! And yes, even though men and women can end up with the wrinkles of doom, unfortunately we ladies are the unlucky winners of the gender lottery in this particular case. Even worse, we can’t just pretend it never happened and not turn in the ticket. Chances are, if you’re a woman, then you’re going to end up with these pesky dimples at some point in your life.

The Myths and The Facts

Myth #1: Being overweight is the only cause of cellulite

The big misconception is that being fat or overweight is the only and direct cause of cellulite. Yes and no. See, even though cellulite is caused by fatty tissue deep in the skin pushing up against the connective tissues, that doesn’t mean that it’s from surplus fat. It just means that, like most children, the fat in our bodies also do whatever they want. Cellulite can also be caused by:

  • Age
  • Estrogen
  • Family history (thanks mom!)
  • Tissue Inflammation
  • Weight Gain
  • Loss of collagen
  • Poor circulation (women are NOT supposed to cross their legs)
  • Poor lymphatic drainage
  • Thinning skin

Myth #2: Cellulite is unhealthy and/or because I’m out of shape

Nope, just unsightly. It can be frustrating, and not something we like to have, but health wise, it really is just a cosmetic problem. It may be an indicator that something else is wrong, but cellulite itself does not mean you are inherently unhealthy.

It’s a tall tale, and the one most commonly told about cellulite! Now, to be fair, being out of shape can make it more visible. That’s because you have more fat under your skin, which puts more stress on your connective tissue. Believe it or not, even Victoria’s Secret models go for regular treatments, despite working out and eating healthy!

Myth #3: Cosmetic Procedures and/or Over-The-Counter Products Can Cure Cellulite

If only it were so easy. There’s also the whole thing about cellulite being caused by ‘toxins’. These over-the-counter cosmetic products claim to remove these so called ‘impurities’. There are also those ‘skin firming creams’ that claim to reduce it. All these do, as far as science can prove, is temporarily thicken your skin. As much as I hate giving people an out, this is one time you can really, scientifically blame hormones and family genes!

And while we’re on the topic of cosmetic treatments – Liposuction does NOT make cellulite look better. In fact, liposuction can make your cellulite look even WORSE. It makes the distribution of those fat cells even more uneven, making your little wrinkles now look like melting jumping castles. Let’s not mention the fact that it’s going to cost you the very leg you’re trying to ‘cure’.

Myth #4: Cardio, Cardio, Cardio!

Actually, no. Not cardio. If you’re trying to lose weight, and keep it off, then sure. Cardio is absolutely wonderful if that’s your goal. But according to research, it’s strength training that’ll smooth out your skin! They found that adults who did three 30-minute aerobic workouts each week for eight weeks lost four pounds but gained no muscle—and only slightly improved body composition.

When they paired 15 minutes of aerobic activity with 15 minutes of strength training three times a week, however, they lost 10 pounds of fat, added two pounds of muscle, and saw a greater overall improvement in body composition. In other words, they looked better and lost most of the wiggle!

Myth #5: Only dermatologists can treat cellulite

When it comes to cellulite, going to a doctor can actually be more of a con than a pro! Believe it or not, cellulite – like many cosmetic problems – is NOT classified as a medical condition. Basically, this means that spas and treatment centres that don’t have the same limitations as doctors, can offer you a bigger and more effective variety of treatments!

Fact #1: It gets worse with age

Sad, but true. Very few of us want to get older, but it’s just a natural part of life. Unfortunately, so is a decrease in estrogen production, which means poor circulation, collagen production breakdown… Once our bodies reach the point of a factory that’s been age captured, it’s goodbye smooth skin, hello cellulite! Hey, claim it with pride, ladies. Feel free to say that, like male baldness, cellulite is a direct result of your increased wisdom!

Fact #2: Blame the family genes

I’m going to be honest with you. If you’re mother and grandmother had cellulite, you’re probably going to be sailing down the same bumpy ravine. Believe it or not, you can actually buy a genetic test that’ll tell you if you’re at risk of severe cellulite – but it’s definitely not worth its price tag. But don’t give up yet. You can still combat cellulite when it does rear its head!

Fact #3: Certain foods can combat cellulite

Your diet can’t prevent cellulite, just to be clear. But a well-balanced diet can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles. So, can drinking water, eating food with a high water content, and other anti-inflammatory foods. Cucumbers, radishes and many other veggies are a great choice. Fruits, like watermelon, pineapple and grapefruit, are also excellent choices – they are also prebiotic!

Fact #4 – Exercise reduces cellulite

Again, exercise can’t cure cellulite. But, as we mentioned in Cardio, Cardio, Cardio, it can help reduce it. With some strength and toning exercise, you can tighten your skin. This, in turn, will reduce the appearance of cellulite. Yoga routines are also a great choice for those who aren’t too keen on weights!

get rid of cellulite naturally ultrasonic cavitation

Fact #5 – Ultrasonic Cavitation is a great option for cellulite reduction

This is a relatively new kid on the cosmetology playground, but a natural leader that everyone wants to meet. The question is, why is ultrasonic cavitation so popular for cellulite treatments? Here’s how it works:

A handle emits ultrasonic waves straight onto the bumpy areas. It liquifies the fat cells, and your body’s lymphatic system gets rid of them naturally. It’s 100% non-invasive and is referred to as one of the only advanced technologies to significantly reduce the appearance of cellulite.

All you need to worry about is drinking lots of water before showing up for your 20 – 60-minute session. Of course, your lifestyle choices will determine whether or not the cellulite makes a horrible comeback. Even so, you’ll definitely see noticeable effects after your sessions!

At Organies Genoeg, we offer ultrasonic cavitation as one of our cellulite reduction therapies. Contact us today to book your session, and finally say goodbye to the bumps and lumps!

Belly Fat. The Good, The Bad And Solution

Belly fat has a name in South Africa. We call it “The Boep”, and it affects most men and women. For some, it has a major effect on their self-esteem, and they will try everything to get rid of the stubborn fat. Mostly this involves Diet plans, Fad-diets and special mixes, medications and concoctions. These often have little or no effect, and the worst part is this: Everything you lost you gain back double if you stop. GREAT! Back to square one, and then some.

What is Belly Fat really?

There are three types of fat: Triglycerides (fat circulating in your blood); Subcutaneous fat (the layer of fat beneath your skin) and Visceral fat (a.k.a Belly Fat). You will find Belly fat beneath your muscles in your stomach and poses many threats to your health if there is too much of it. In simple terms, belly fat is excess fat that surrounds the organs in your stomach.

What causes it?

There are many factors that can contribute to belly fat. Below are a few of those factors to take note of.

Poor Diet

Sweets, fizzy drinks and sugary foods can lead to weight gain which slows your metabolism and, in the end, reduce a person’s ability to burn fat.

Alcohol

Drinking too much alcohol could cause a variety of health problems, such as liver failure, kidney failure and alcohol poisoning. People, the majority of which are male, gain weight around their bellies from drinking an excessive amount of alcohol.

Lack of exercise

Obviously, if you take in more calories than the calories you burn off, you will gain weight. Living an inactive lifestyle (and no, Wii Sports don’t count) makes it even harder for a person to get rid of stubborn fat, particularly around the belly.

Stress

Cortisol is a hormone released by our bodies to control and deal with stress. In many cases your body will release Cortisol when in danger or under high amounts of pressure. This, of course, impacts your metabolism. People usually turn to food as a good stress reliever. The bad news, however, is that the Cortisol causes the excess calories to remain around the belly and other body areas for later use.

How to lose belly fat

Try to make a few lifestyle changes and you may end up losing the unwanted belly fat. Here are a few tips for getting started:

Level-up your diet

A healthy and balanced diet can help a person lose weight and have an excellent effect on your overall health. Try to avoid fatty foods and foods low nutritional value like refined carbohydrates. Instead, eat lots fruit and vegetables, lean proteins and complex carbohydrates.

Drink less alcohol

If you are trying to lose the stubborn belly fat you should monitor your alcohol intake. Why? Alcohol contains additional sugars that can contribute to gaining more weight.

Become more active and work out

A sedentary lifestyle (doing nothing) can contribute to many health problems, including weight. If you are trying to lose the stubborn belly fat, getting a good amount of exercise everyday is a good point to start. (Walking is a form of exercise, just so you know).

Stress less

It might be easier said than done. Even so, this thing we call stress is a major contributor to gaining weight. Destress yourself with gentle exercises like Yoga or meditation.

Shaking off the last bits of fat

The one thing about belly fat is that, even if you do make lifestyle changes and try to live a healthier life, you might still end up with fat around your waist, hips and thighs. We call that “Stubborn Fat”. You will know when you are dealing with this problem because nothing you do will make the fat go away. For most people this can be devastating, especially after all the efforts they put into living healthier. Even though it is no longer a health issue it can still make a big impact on self-confidence and body positivity.

At this stage, weight loss isn’t a priority. What you need now is fat loss – and that is where fat freezing technology excels. Instead of reducing the size of fat cells, fat freezing destroys fat cells without harming the surrounding skin and tissue. It can directly target your trouble spots making sure you lose the fat where you need to.

With our fat freezing sessions, you can finally reclaim your old jeans proudly. If you would like to find out if you are a candidate for fat freezing, contact us today to book a consultation.

5 Benefits Of Fat Freezing Therapy

Do you maintain a healthy diet and regular exercise? Still can’t shed stubborn pockets of fat on particular areas of your body? Are you reluctant to undergo surgical procedures to address these areas of concern? If yes, fat freezing is a popular option for many people struggling with body fat.

Fat Freezing is regarded as the number one non-invasive fat reduction procedure performed worldwide. It’s also proven to be a safe and effective treatment. Here are some of the benefits of fat freezing, as listed by Tafwellness, a leading center for fat freezing treatment.

5 Benefits of Fat Freezing:

  • Impressive and natural looking results: The fat freezing treatment yields natural looking results which are gradual. Significant results usually show between three to six months. In fact, the natural progression makes it easier to make your treatment a private matter.
  • Zero downtime and recovery: Unlike many surgical procedures which have a high downtime, fat freezing treatment is a non-surgical process. The treatment involves freezing and killing cells in the body leading to some redness and swelling. However, you can return to your everyday activities following the treatment and has minimal discomfort.
  • Long-lasting results: One of the biggest benefit of Fat Freezing is that it permanently removes the fat cells it targets. When you diet, the fat cells decrease in size but remain in the body. This makes it easier to regain the fat. As long as you keep up the healthy habits that fat will be gone for good. However, you’re most likely to see more evenly distributed fat with Fat Freezing. And that’s even if you do gain weight again.
  • Efficiency: The fat freezing treatment has the ability to treat multiple problems area at once. As a result, the slimming process becomes faster! The targeted treatment areas include thighs, stomach, upper arms, flanks, chin, and more. The candidates suitable for this treatment are usually within 5-7 kgs of their ideal weight.
  • FDA-Approved: The fat freezing procedure is an FDA-approved making it an extremely safe and effective treatment of visible fat bulges in areas, abdomen, and flank. The Fat freezing systems are controlled cooling devices that are designed with built-in safety measures. In addition to this, the treatment has also proved to yield up to 21% fat loss in the targeted area so you can see a visible difference even after the first treatment.

Does Fat Freezing Work? The Experts Weigh In

Recently, all across the country, a topic is on the tips of tongues: Fat Freezing. Not a new technology, the fat freezing procedure formally called cryolipolysis was first discovered after, rumour has it, doctors noticed that children who ate a lot of ice pops experienced fat degradation in their cheeks. “Fat is more temperature-sensitive than your skin,” explains UCLA professor and plastic surgeon Jason Roostaeian, MD. “It goes through the cell death process before your skin does.” Yet people still ask: Does Fat Freezing Work?

CoolSculpting was first approved by the FDA in 2010. It gained attention when it was rebranded from minor spot treatment to a noninvasive alternative to liposuction. It also promised to eviscerate love handles and bra bulge with the wave of a cooling paddle. Most recently, the non-surgical fat reduction tool was cleared to tackle loose skin under the chin, a smaller area that is more difficult to alter through natural means like diet and exercise. Sound too good to be true? According to Roostaeian and Manhattan-based CoolSculpting guru Jeannel Astarita, the technology works. Here, they discuss the ins and outs of fat freezing, from weight loss to health risks.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Fat Freezing procedures use rounded paddles in one of four sizes to suction your skin and fat “like a vacuum,” says Roostaeian. While you sit in a reclined chair for up to two hours, cooling panels set to work crystallizing your fat cells. “It’s a mild discomfort that people seem to tolerate pretty well,” he says. “[You experience] suction and cooling sensations that eventually go numb.” In fact, the procedural setting is so relaxed that patients can bring laptops to do work, enjoy a movie, or simply nap while the machine goes to work.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Above all, emphasizes Roostaeian, fat freeze is “for someone who is looking for mild improvements,” explaining that it’s not designed for one-stop-shop major fat removal like liposuction. When clients come for a consultation, you must consider “their age, skin quality—will it rebound? Will it look good after volume is removed?—and how thick or pinchable their tissue is,” before approving them for treatment, because the suction panels can only treat the tissue it can access. “If someone has thick, firm tissue,” explains Astarita, “I won’t be able to give them a wow result.”

WHAT ARE THE RESULTS?

“It often takes a few treatments to get to your optimum results,” says Roostaeian, who admits that a single treatment will yield very minimal change, sometimes imperceptible to clients. “One of the downsides of [fat freezing] is there’s a range for any one person. I’ve seen people look at before and after pictures and not be able to see the results.” All hope is not lost, however, because both experts agree that the more treatments you have, the more results you will see. What will happen eventually is an up to 25 percent fat reduction in a treatment area.

WILL IT MAKE YOU LOSE WEIGHT?

“None of these devices shed pounds,” says Astarita, reminding potential patients that muscle weighs more than fat. When you’re shedding 25 percent of fat in a handful of tissue, it won’t add up to much on the scale, but, she counters, “When [you lose] what’s spilling over the top of your pants or your bra, it counts.” Her clients come to her in search of better proportions at their current weight, and may leave having dropped “one or two sizes in clothing.”

IS IT PERMANENT?

“I really emphasize to my patients, yes it’s a permanent fat reduction technology, but only if you control your weight. If you gain weight, it will go somewhere,” says Astarita. Lasting improvements to your body can also occur by changing your behaviour through nutrition and exercise. “A little bit of this is on you: If you’re going to do 14 cycles and not change your diet and eating habits at all, [your body] is not going to change at all.”

WHEN SHOULD YOU START IT?

Roostaeian recommends scheduling your session three months in advance, six at the most. Results are not visible for at least four weeks, with the fat loss reaching its peak at around eight. “By twelve weeks your skin smooths out and looks prettier,” says Astarita. “That’s the cherry on top.” But, reminds Roostaeian, “the results after one treatment are almost always inadequate. Each [treatment] has a downtime, so you want at least six to eight weeks [between appointments].”

IS IT SAFE?

Because this is a noninvasive procedure, the risks, comparatively speaking, are very low. Contour irregularities can occur the same way they might in liposuction. While the system leaves less room for human error in terms of fat removal, it also has its limitations. Of course, the biggest being in terms of fine-tuning removal the way an artful plastic surgeon might by hand. So, too, a potential complication lies with your numbed nerves feeling as though they’ve fallen asleep. This can happen for “weeks if not months—that can happen,” acknowledges Roostaeian. Wounds will not occur, and swelling is minimal. Further risks should be discussed with your doctor.

What You Need To Know About Fat Freezing

People interested in Fat freezing treatments – technically known as cryolipolysis – are often left wondering if the process really works, or if it’s just the latest fad. If you didn’t know, fat-freezing is an FDA approved treatment that freezes fat cells. This is to get rid of “love handles,” a double chin and other unwanted bulges of fat. It does promise to remove 25% of fat – but not all in one treatment!

The FDA cleared the marketing of the fat freezing method in 2010. This was after a successful study on fat freeze treatments. After 6 months, 60 patients saw their fat reduced by an average of 19%! Since then, fat freezing has become a global phenomenon and here is what you need to know about Fat Freezing.

What You Need To Know About Fat Freezing
Fat Freezing Before and After Pictures from Various Patients

How does it work?

Fat freeze works with special suction cups that suck in your skin, and goes to work on the cooling process. When it does this, it crystallizes fat cells. The body can then get rid of the fat cells. It usually lasts about 35 minutes to an hour, depending on the area. There’s also some discomfort involved. Although it’s not as bad as getting surgery, you’ll still feel the cold and numbness of the cooling.

However, fat freezing technology “is intended to reduce the appearance of visible bulges, not as a treatment for obesity.”, says Dr. Andrew Weil, and he makes an excellent points. Cryolipolysis will definitely reduce your visible fat, but if you don’t change your lifestyle, it’s like popping diet pills without ever going on a diet.

Can men use Fat Freezing Treatments?

Absolutely! You might not know it, but treatment for enlarged men’s breasts is the fourth-most popular cosmetic surgery for men. In 2015 a study showed that 95% of 21 men that used fat freeze treatments not only looked better, but felt better as well!

Are there risks?

Like with any treatment or therapy, there are always risks. In this case, the risk is minimal. Your body might have some slight irregular contouring because the fat isn’t removed evenly, but that can easily be fixed. You might also experience some numbness and swelling. Each area has their own risks – always check beforehand if you’re not sure!
